What do you think constitutes being a good wife?

After a chat with someone yesterday I am curious as to what you guys think makes a good wife!
I have quite an old fashioned view on it and I try and make sure that r house is clean and tidy, washing done, dinner cooked etc!! We have a laugh together and I always encourage him to head out for about of him time. What do u guys think?

Same for husband and wife for me. The person needs to be your best friend and someone who totally supports you. My 'job' as the wife in the relationship is to be here whenever he needs me, to give him a kick up the backside whenever he needs one, and to help him achieve his dreams.

Although I do most of the household tasks, I don't see that as my wifey role, same as I don't see it as his role to go out to work.

A wifes Job is to be happy and fullfilled, giving and loving, nurturing and cherish the life, the family and herself.

I concur with the previous 2 statements but it's the husband that should have the warm feet, how else can I warm mine? And I definitely think it's every wife's duty to teach her husband how to iron his own shirts once in their relationship, after that he's on his own.

On a more serious note we both do everything, washing, dish washing, cooking (although if I didn't do the lions share I'd get mighty sick of pasta with oil and garlic!), cleaning and bringing up the kid (even though she's now 25 ). He does heavier things and one day I'll teach him how to clean the bath, although as the new one is still upended in the bathroom that will have to wait.

People should do what they like in their own relationships, if they want to be an old-fashioned housewife, or husband, that's fine - as long as it hasn't been imposed by an overbearing spouse.

Sorry, can't help. Still stubbornly single. Even after two offers of marriage: one from a complete stranger, rather drunker than sober, who walked up to me on Hanham High Street and proposed. The other from an elderly Canadian gentleman after I helped him out when he went round the T45cos roundabout the wrong way - I was a bit surprised his first wife (who was sat in the car at the time) didn't complain (or comment on his driving). I guess he probably thought she was the perfect wife.

I suspect that we ladies/girls/wives/women might be overthinking this one a bit....

I reckon that we feel the need to be many things to our other halves; loving, strong, caring, equal, honest, supportive, humorous, interesting, attractive, and loads of other things besides. I also think that a thread like this shows we are consciously interested in achieving the right balance and blend.

BUT I'm not sure that men are that bothered by these subtleties though, and that many men would be thrilled simply to have a wife who cooks really well, knows which spanner to hand him, and, erm.. how shall i put this? "Never has a headache"
