Depends on your definition. Billy Bragg has already had a mention (BB is God!!), but I like the nu-folk. Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons got me through the winter! - strangely I don't listen to some much in the summer as I like the peace and listening to the birds in the garden, (Please prove how nice you all are and don't shoot me down , I know there is great debate as to whether the new stuff counts)
Just noticed this thread :-)

Bert Jansch died today from lung cancer. Possibly the greatest acoustic guitarist ever and inspiration to many famous guitarists such as Jimmy Page and Johnny Marr and many more not so famous like me. I thought I'd mention it here as I started this thread listing him as one of my favourite folk musicians. I will continue to stuggle trying to learn to play his music and will never be as good even if I outlive him.
RIP Bert Jansch
I don't have any real favourites as I like so many!
If pushed, Seamus Begley would bubble to the top as a dreamy singer, first-class musician and a hoot to boot but really, the competition is too strong to single out one.
I don't really have favourites as I've got a fairly wide collection, though if pushed
4 Men and A Dog
Tannahill Weavers
Silly Wizard
Loreena McKennitt
The Kipper Family
Les Barker (not really folk or a musician but I've seen him at several folk festivals)
Christy Moore
John Renbourn.
And just to add a bit of swerve to the thread. If I had to name a line up for some groups to appear at the same festival my ideal line up would be Jethro Tull, Loreena McKennitt and Blackmore's Night.
Malc
High in the sky, what do you see ?
Come down to Earth, a cup of tea
Flying saucer, flying teacup
From outer space, Flying Teapot
My idea lineup would also include Jethro Tull. Then there would be the Peatbog Faeries, Shooglenifty, The Oyster Band, The Waterboys, Jackie Leven, Buffe Saint Marie, Alabama 3, Paul Brady and Thea Gilmore. There are probably others that I can't think of at the moment.
Has anyone seen the plot, I seem to have lost mine?

I once bought a couple of tickets to see him. He was so stoned he could hardly stand, let alone play. I never bought another ticket for Jansch. Renbourne, on the other hand, always gave good value.
