Greetings from Somerset, England

Post: # 231852Post davidpopely »

Just a quick line to introduce myself. I am 55 and live in beautiful Somerset in the South West of England, where I am married to the even more beautiful Emma. Together we are committed to living a self sufficiently as possible, and although we have taken only small steps so far, we plan to lengthen our stride over the coming months. We have a medium sized garden (22m x 4 m) and currently keep bees (one hive). We will be turning over as much of the garden as we can to produce, plus maybe to chickens (although that may have to wait a few months), and next year we'll move from a single beehive to multiple hives with the aim of making honey production an income stream.

I look forward very much to getting to know, and learning from, you all on this forum.

David

Thanks Clare - feel free to message any time (although I don't seem to have a private message facility yet). Where in Somerset are you? Happy to pick brains any time! davidpopely (at) googlemail (dot) com

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Thanks for the offer of help David. We are currently in a little village between Bridgwater and Street, but will hopefully be moving to a village outside Wells in the Autumn, which has a much bigger garden and veg patch. Once we move I'll have more of a think about the bees. I've found the plans for a top bar hive online - Im planing on constructing one over winter with the aim of setting things up for next Spring. Where in Somerset are you?
