Does anybody know of any good deals for long cable ties.
These are the easiest way to tie up tomatoes, i.e to tie them to the canes.
Have seen them last year at B&M but at about £1 for 10, so quite expensive buying them that way.
thanks in advance !
.. found some here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000 ... ukdeals-21
300mm size, 100 for £2.37 delivered. I posted that deal too

Isn't a bit of garden twine (made of jute) easier?
Those cable ties are plastic, pricey, are a b*gger to cut off and if you accidentally tie one too tight you can't loosen it and if you miss it will strangle your plant.

Thanks for the link KK21 I don't use them for tomatoes (prefer growing up a piece of twine - I'm just a lazybones) but I do use them round the garden for all sorts of things, and those are a really good price.

I had my house rewired and I have metres of old cables. I use that chopped up into suitable lengths and they twist into shape perfectly. Shame my tomatoes died when they were hit by a laste frost.

We use old cable too, especially for making catches for doors. Take a long enough piece of one of the plastic covered wires from inside the cable fold in half and twist along the length. Staple the open end to the shed and poke other folded end through a staple left protruding from the door. Bend it over and it's really secure. We use them for all the normal doors in the barn and the small ones for the hens, and on all the sheds to hold the the doors open as well as to keep them shut. Brilliant stuff.
