Have you seen the price of Cardboard Coffins?

As I live in the shadow of a 500 year old oak tree, and have frequent conversations with it, I have come to realise that it would be a little ungratefull, and not a little unkind of me, to take a little part of one of his kin in to the fire with me, when I shrug off this mortal coil, and as my ashes are to scattered at his feet so to speak, I feel it would be an insult to a friend.
So I have decided to buy a Cardboard Coffin, and duly Googled, to find a local Supplier and have one deliver as a Flatpack, so that the family can have the fun of putting it together,come the day.

Just for the hell of it, have a google, and have look at the prices, and designs and and let me know what you think, and if some of you crafters think you can make me one, I am quite prepared to pay for a quality job.

PS? I weigh 80 kilos, so PLEASE make sure the bottom is good and strong as i don't want fall flat on my arse, on my big day.

You could always pop to your local freezer shop and ask them for a box from an upright freezer - I'm sure it would be about the right size!
I have told my lot that I want to be put in a card board box and have a cherry tree planted on me.

We got a wicker coffin when my Mum went - and then I was stood with my 2 younger girls when the guys brought her out of the house to the car - the bottom looked like it was going to go & it was as much as we could do not to burst into fits of giggles!!

I know you can get the plain ones & have a painting party, so you get to have whatever design you want on it - I think I'd quite like a yellow one covered i huge smilies!!

My plan,it has to change now I'm leaving the UK, was to leave my remains to my pigs,pick up what came out from the other end,and send it in a jiffy bag to DEFRA.ultimatley,just getting my own

I went to a funeral recently where a wicker coffin was used. Unfortunately it was a fairly loose weave wicker and had not been lined. As they carried the coffin up the church aisle you could see the body shifting around as though alive! I have made my husband promise that my wicker coffin is lined even if only with newspaper (the Times of course!!!!)

I've always thought it was madness to pay out hundreds for a lovely coffin, only for it to be burnt (or perhaps not burnt and reused again - naughty, makes you wonder!). Cardboard ones make sense, just chuck my ashes under a nice tree........or work me into the veg plot!

I was once a pallbearer where the bloke being buried had made his own coffin from salvaged floor boards and pallets, with old iron door fittings for handles. It was very sturdy but was a bit rough around the edges so most of us ended up with splinters. He'd have been amused by that.

What about natural burial? Where I live, the old cemetery is full and we need a new one. The cemetery committee is planning a natural cemetery where there will be no coffins or embalming allowed. Bodies will be buried with only a shroud. There are no laws against it (Here, anyway. Check your local laws.), and they have active support from the zoning authorities.

That sounds really rather good, KeithBC. I just want to be buried (when dead, that is) in a shroud or wicker coffin - something easily biodegradable - then a nice tree planted on top of me. At least then I'll know I've been some good to this poor planet.

On the other hand, Britain is fast running out of space for cemeteries. Cremation need not be wasteful—why not make crematoria part of bio-fueled power stations? I could be burned up to keep the OH warm for a couple of hours. :D

erm, I would like a cardboard coffin because I can't see the point in spending thousands on a wooden one only for me to get burnt.
