Hey folks :thumbright:

You probably already know this - but I'll share just in case.

Our allotment is, apart from where we've prepared, full of weeds like couch, sticky grass etc.
We have had next to no rain in April and as you all know that makes digging even just 1 spit deep VERY hard work, so wecame up with this plan:
Chop off the tops of weeds on an area the size of required bed.
WATER IT! (huh? :scratch: that sounds mad!)
Cover with light-proof and water-proof shit (black plastic or whatever)
Come back in 2 days and dig to a spit-deep (our plot is sandy under that)
Weed roots come out like pulling a hot knife through butter.

This was Tina's idea and it worked very well... easy work! :cheers:

Will be trying that. I've been digging up inside my new polytunnel and the ground is baked hard, like concrete! I covered it in water and left it for a bit and then it was just like mud covering concrete. I still dug it up fine (because I'm badass) but I still have a loooong ways to go.
