So sorry to hear about your Mum's fall. Im glad she is feeling a lot brighter now though.

These injuries can often take a while to heal and varies from person to person. Its not just the time needed for the bones to heal, but also the time needed to regain her strength and confidence about going back home too. Its good that the hospital are arranging for her to go to a respite home. Also make sure that she has been seen by physiotherapists and occupational therapists either before she leaves hospital or once she is at the respite place - they are an essential part of the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of all elderly patients. All infections in the elderly (most common are either urine or chest infections) don't cause the same symptoms as in younger adults. With urine infections the elderly often don't get any pain/burning on passing urine (as you would usually expect), but they often become confused and 'not themselves', which is a common presentation.
