Strange shape eggs

Post: # 229488Post Oilystairs »

Hey there - we have a large black hen that has been struggling to squeeze out frankly enormous eggs lately and yesterdays was a bizarre shape. It also has some poo/dirt around its vent feathers and i wonder if it is a type of chicken that gets easily egg bound. It is otherwise in good shape. What are the remedies to help a chicken ease out its eggs - anything we can put in its food? Thanks

Strange shape eggs can be a sign of something, such as lack of calcium, but it depends on the shape. Hen welfare's magazine had a really useful feature on egg shapes this time. You might find something similar on t'internet.

Eggs tend to get larger as the hen gets older. Is she an old girl?
