Hi Mrs Wombat - good to "meet" you at last! Yes, as Shirley says above, we are having a heat wave here in Aberdeenshire... Above 20 degree for a few days now! And a lot more in the polytunnel...

Am trying to grow Queensland Blue, so we can do with all the heat we're getting.

I hate football too and am really pleased when I hear that a bloke doesn't like it!

Thankfully the noise downstairs is the Formula One motor racing which is much kinder on the ears, I reckon! The only thing worse than the sound of football commentary is horse racing!

I'm loving the sunshine. But in this country you can't go for long without hearing someone complaining about the weather no matter what it's doing (it's too hot; it's too cold; it's too wet; it's too dry - and we wonder why we get called 'whingeing poms'). I was just thinking that in your climate, the sunshine must be great, but when it rains, that's so rare that that is great too.

Great to meet you

The Enviro shop sounds brilliant - is there a web link???

A lovely sunny day here in Aberdeenshire too although I have a feeling that there is something wrong with the thermometer as it is suggesting that it is already 20 C outside :? Surely not... not in Scotland lol.....
Hi Shirlz, It was actually a show. They do this quite often at Rosehill exhibition centre which is only about 20 minutes from us. There's all sorts of themes, Camping, quilting and craft etc. It gives the opportunity for all the traders from around Australian to show their wares. There were a no. of those that had web sites. Most of the traders seem to be selling water tanks ( funny about that ). They have sprung up everywhere since the drought. However there was also different types of enviromental housing even a guy demonstrating how to build a straw bail house. A lot of solar hot water guys , I liked the new solar tubing for the solar hot water systems brilliant! I just had a look at the brochures we brought home and and there is one called www.ecodirectory.com.au that looks interesting ( I checked they do post overseas). However if your like us its the ideas your after then produce the stuff yourself. :flower:

Rain

Post: # 22873Post Mrs Wombat »

Hi Stew, When it rains here people dance around in it. We look at the clouds saying ( Come on you know you can do it ! ).

I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains of rugged mountain ranges of droughts and flooding rains. Dorothy Mckellar.

Crazy place, In Sydney the dam is less than a quarter full and in Melbourne its pouring and in Northern Queensland they had a cyclone which wiped out all the banana plantations. I love Sydney in the wintertime. Crisp air, blue skys, beautiful. Generally sits around 15 degrees.
Always look for the positive.

Hi Ina, Polytunnel is a type of greenhouse I gather. I hope your pumpkins go well. I love Queensland blue pumkins they're one of the best. Rich in colour and flavour. Then I love pumpkin of any kind especially baked. Nev hates it which I find difficult to understand but I guess each to their own. Not too sure about pumpkin pie as in Aus its basically eaten as a vegetable.

Well I got the pick of the litter! He hates watching sport in general and rolls his eyes when I do. I don't do it that often and drive him nuts but I do when its something special like the world cup. Plus it gives my son in law someone to share it with. If your into sport this household can be a really lonely place. My father in law hated it and taught both his boys to loath it. They are gardeners from way back. And the most watched channel in this place is the discovery channel. I actually went looking for a guy who hated football as my mother was a sports widow. When my father wasn't watching football and trying to stick his foot through the t.v. he was playing golf. Which Nev calls ( dus hit and go findin ball!). I'm not much of a green thumb but I love to eat what Nev grows and I love the idea of being completely independant from the establishment.

I've always been an independent soul so being self sufficient not only helps the environment which I'm sick to death of money hungry people destroying for their own gain but it means we don't have to rely on Howard! for our wants and needs! ( Weedy little #####) Anyway thats my aussie whinge

I've been lucky enough to get a football-hating man too.

We spent Saturday in his 'garden', removing nettles etc. When he went to take the resulting sacks of green waste to the tip (where it's composted) it was in the middle of the match & he didn't have to queue at all. Usually the queues on a Sat. afternoon are so long they have to shut the tip temporarily. Unfortunately I'm too tired/ achey, after a weekend digging out nettles & putting in new fence panels, to anything more energetic than sitting in front of the pc & this is a struggle.

Had a burst of activity there, the cat came in a headed for the window-sill (her favourite place to sit when I'm in this room) so I had to move the aloe-vera plants before she knocked them out of the window...

Cool! Send him over here! I have a pile that would put the peaks in Nepal to shame. Nev does most things but he draws the line at that one. I can't blame him it is the worst job in the house.
