mangetout

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

It all depends what you have available.
Mange tout peas normally grow to about 3' tall, so anything that they can climb up will do.
Canes or sticks in a wigwam as you suggested would be OK, twiggy (leafless) sticks cut out of a hedge would be better, an bit of old wire netting or plastic fencing mesh or a trellis (bought or home made)or a frame with twine woven like a coarse net, in fact anything that looks like it could work.
The peas are not fussy, as long as they can grab hold of something and grow upwards.
