Nettle Stings

Post: # 228974Post snapdragon »

Now I've always known to use dock leaves to remove the pain of stinging nettles, but heard today (on GQT) that nettle sap is the best thing. Has anyone tried it? The lass on GQT said it definitely works.

So having been stung by a nettle, the solution is to pick a nettle and squeeze it to get the sap out to rub on the sting you got in the first place? Have I got that right?

 I think it might involve gloves at some point

No gloves required. The sting gets you when you are gentle or it brushes against you, if you grab the leaf and squeeze it, you've then crushed the stingers and you can use the leaf itself (which has anti-histamines in) to rub on wherever you were stung.

It also add a nice feeling of having had your revenge on the offending plant.

With all due respect, I've tried that. Sometimes, it works ... other times, I get stung. I read somewhere that you can drink the water from a bubbling mountain stream four feet downstream from the body of a dead sheep. The question is, why not simply go four feet upstream and avoid the issue entirely? Grasping nettles firmly is a bit like that for me.
