Japanese knotweed - what to do with leftover bits?
Hi - I picked my first batch of Japanese knotweed this week and made a nice crumble and some jam.
I have a box of offcuts now and am wondering what's the best way to dispose of them? I don't have a bin to burn them in right now so was thinking I could just cook them in the oven for a while until they were destroyed...
Anyone got any good ideas?
Thanks
Malcolm

yep, cook em in the oven, or boil them for a few mins - that should do it

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.

Thanks Marc - I think I'll just boil them for a while.

I've always thought the Japanese ritual of knotweed blowing (hara kiri) to be very fitting. Gather up the bits and, on a blustery day, throw them as hard as you can straight up. This ritual must be repeated several times every year. Soon you'll have no problem getting enough knotweed.

Hah!
My new strategy is to top and tail the stems where I find them (i.e. in the middle of the knotweed patch), so there's no waste once I get back home.

Hi Giz ...
The young shoots of knotweed are certainly edible, and apparently taste a little like rhubarb. So Malcolm's tale of crumble and jam could be true. But if you look at the date of his first post on the subject - well, I'll leave you to make up your own mind

oh it's definitely edible - I've even convinced my wife to eat it, she'll eat anything in a crumble!
