Great to find you all here and I'm looking forward to reading the forum.
We're just bought a house with a garden that we're hoping to turn into our microholding (it isn't big enough to call a smallholding).
After living the frugal lifestyle for several years in, an attempt to save up to buy our own place, we eventually found an affordable fixy-up. As soon as we get moved in, we'll concentrate on becoming self-sufficientish in eggs, veggies and fruit for preserves. Our shoestring budget is miniscule, probably only enough for a first baby shoestring, so we need all the helpful hints, tips and suggestions we can get. In fact, my shoestring is more like a piece of baling twine, if I'm honest.
We already keep hens, ducks and quail, make do and mend wherever possible, recycle everything we can and are active members of the local 'LETS' group. I'll need to start again with the composting, once we move, and the 'garden' looks a bit like a badly kept field, but we'll get there eventually.
Looking forward to getting to know a few more like-minded people and will appreciate whatever advice can be offered. The new place has almost a quarter of an acre of garden that hasn't been touched in over 2 years, so it's a challenge.
