Er.... Hello, anyone around?

Post: # 22429Post marcherman »

Now the weather has bucked up I am out of my shell and making myself known. I live in Welshpool, there are no known allotments, I have a Plant Pot Garden, all flowers thanks to the, 'Long Haired 'un', (I'm thin on top and jealous). I am very interested in Self Sufficiency and, in an attempt to supply some basic needs bought the wife a bread maker, I make home brewed wines and cheese. All in all I can have a Cheese and Wine night on my own and after a few can call it a Cheesy Whine Night.
Well, hi to everyone, especially Ray, who came calling yesterday.

Hi there and welcome to the site. Now all you have to do is make some pickle and you'll be self sufficient in cheese and pickle sarnies!

Hi Marcherman, welcome!

Why don't you widen your gardening pursuits by including some flowering herbs in your pot garden? Alternatively, edible flowers might do... Still look nice, which should keep your OH happy, but they are more useful!

G'DAy Marcherman,

Welcome to the forum anyway.....

Where in the World.....

Bore Da Wombat,

Indeed yes, I ;live in Gods Own Holiday Resort, who's embhlem is the Red Dragon, unless keen on self suffiency when it becomes a Leek, which everyone knows is the, Tree of Knowledge

Seriously though, I live not far from Shrewsbury, on the Welsh side of the border, in the Severn Valley. So much growing here that allotments do not rate as an item and to get six people to approach the Council would be a miracle.

At the moment I am into cheese making for myself and friends. Just getting to grips with the complexities of it all and managing to turn out the odd cheese, and most of my cheeses are very odd.

Making cheese - I do it my way

Post: # 22716Post marcherman »

Hi Ray, Hi everyone,

Andy, making cheese is great fun. It is, I think, easy but it depends on how you aproach the problems, I find trepidation and care my two most vital commodities as I can be a Clutz in the kitchen.

Following the instructions is not always as easy as it seems, the moreso when the instructions have bits omitted and then, learning through, On the Job Experience is a little costly.

The greatest problem for me personally, is good storage facilities and, at this time, my wife hates me for cluttering up the bathroom, talk about a variety of scents :drunken:

Tell your OH that whey is very good for the skin - maybe that'll make her a bit more agreeable aboput your mis-use of the bathroom!
It's true - I had wonderfully soft hands when I worked in France, making cheese for half a year...

Hi Ina,

Sounds wonderful but, I have no problems for my lady is deaf and when she gets to moaning, (nagging), I simply switch off and pretend that she is saying wonderful things
