Whaaaat?? MMM, you at least must have had a seriously deprived childhood (you did grow up in the UK didn't you?).

Pooh Sticks is a traditional pastime for all children of aspiring middle class parents who were brought up on the Pooh books by A.A. Milne. It compares favourably to the more modern tradition of breaking wing mirrors off cars.

It can also be said to teach children from an early age the importance of 'winning' in an otherwise completely benign situation. On the other hand, it could also be said to teach them the meaninglessness of it.

Once considered a perfectly charming way to spend time on a bridge over a stream, these days there is a serious risk of being run over, so children are now best kept at home on the Playstation.

Oh, you want to know how to play it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pooh_sticks

From age of 6. But I've never played this game! Well there weren't any rivers nearby where I used to live, so I guess that would explain it.

Thank you very much!

Yes, I must admit I got to middle age without ever having read Winnie the Pooh... A serious gap in my education.

We did play similar things, though, not having the benefit of Playstation or even a TV in my home.
