Cockerel Woes

Hi people

My Rottvieler managed to escape and bite my cockerel. After separating the dog from the bird, It seems that the cock had a two bites in his bottom. The results of these bites are that he doesn't poo rather well and it kinds of dribbles out. He seems in good spirits but for the last 2 weeks, We've kept him separate from the chickens but when we introduce them, a few chickens peck him and we return him to the separate room. Should i dispatch him to the pot or is there anything else we can do?
If I am going to cook him, is there anything which I should give him to make the meat nice/ etc?

Evidently cockerel is only supposed to be used for a male bird under one year!

I always call ours 'Rooster'... it just seems wrong listening to the 7 yr old granddaughter talking about the pretty cocks in the garden!!

Anyway... I am sorry but I don't know the answer to the original question. Have you put something on the wounds to help heal them?

We've sprayed disinfectant and the wound has healed but i think surgery is needed to repair the pooping mechanism

The problem has been solved as My dogs escaped and killed all the chickens but left the locked up cockrel alone

Hmmm... the rules in this house is that the birds (and now lambs) get respected first & foremost - anything that can't live with that, goes!!

And yes, that DOES include the hubby!

Julie you make me smile as I'm picturing your bassets with the lambs and I'm trying to conjure up a vision of droopy sleepy looking dogs doing an 'evil' rottweiler impersonation but failing miserably!

Anyway back to the poor old cockerel - I don't think there's much point in keeping him is there - sad but true, no point replacing the hens and he's already been injured by one of the dogs so I think the original question is answered.
