Hi Camile

Welcome to the board!!

Beautiful pics... well the ones I've seen anyway - sorry but they just take too long to load on my slow broadband connection. Agree... a place to put pics would be fantastic!!!!

I do particularly love the one of meg in the mist though.. beautiful...!!!!

Camile - if you put more photos on - which we'd all love to see - could you make them smaller please? Otherwise it is hard to read text when the page size has become so wide! Thanks.

Hi everyone ..

Well Mr. Trench, although your french is great (fairplay), it will be the same treatment as for Sandy -> The fireplace because there isn't much room ..

And sorry about that M3, I should have thought (?? is that the way to spell it) about that before ...

I've resized them all so it should make it easier for everyone ...

And I can't resist putting some more .. and to introduce the new animals living with us now ...

So here is Bald-Head (grey one), who's know Babylon's husband:
Image

And here is Marinette, she's such a tender loving little sheep .. and so soft that you would cuddle her for days !
Image

And here is a pics of the Veggie fence (in case they try to escape):
Image

I made a "cold frame / propagator" with some salvaged windows to fit on top of the raised beds so I can move it from one to another as required ..

I'll post pics of it one day because I'm sure it can be improved for more efficiency .. but so far everything is thriving under it .. so it's not that bad ..

And here is a better picture of the Goat house, it's a nice little shelter when the weather gets too bad (but everyone knows that never happens in Ireland ! ):
Image

It was made out of pallets and old fertilizer bag for insulation .. so 100% recycled because even the nails were from the pallet .. not bad for a beginner ...

Have a good day ..
Camile

That's a much better size, Camile. They are glorious photos. Is it only ever sunny in Ireland?

As you are a www.photobucket user, they have a clever thumbnail facility, which means you include a small picture in your message that we can click on to take us to the bigger picture. To use this, go to your album page, tick the box under all the photos you want us to see, then go to the bottom of the page and click on the 'Generate HTML & IMG code' button. You will then see a page of code - use the one that says 'IMG clickable thumbnails' - one line per picture.

Hi Bazil ..

Welcome to Selfsufficientish ..

Work in Ireland is pretty straight forward to find .. especially if you speak a foreign language .... because most of the jobs are in call centres ...

Otherwise there is always work in pubs and restaurants and all .

It all depends on your trade or skills ...

good luck ..
Camile

Wow Camile....

Congrats on an amazing set up.... :flower: have to say for the first time in a while you have made me really really homesick !!!!!

So to remind myself why my life is better here am going to share a little bit ....

Am form the south of Ireland Kerry, went to Dublin to go to College and later work , met the love of my life and we moved in together !!!!

I was working as a chef and Ross was working Mon-Fri 9-5 we had minutes together each week.....this was not how we had planned it .......
I always had a dream to work with food as medicine so I went back to school part time and done a course in Holistic Massage then almost two years ago.... we made the biggest decision of our lifes.....We packed in the rat race !!!!

Ross got a job in Barbados...I stay at home....guess I am still working on what I am?? in many ways I am the silent provider.....the relaxing gene...

So now we live in a tiny wooden cottage we rent in the center of Barbados, with five dogs, we live our lives outside having outside decking on each side of the house with an outdoor BBQ and sink on the west deck .....

I grow most of our veggies..all of our herbs...make all of our food without chemicals preservatives or additives but the biggest luxury we have here is time ........

Time to say hello in morning get up walk the dogs gently start the day, no more rushing round like headless chickens......

I understand so much better now the meaning of the word stress, the funny thing I never understood it in Ireland when we where stressed.......We have no telly, one car and less money......

But we could never have dreamt of been this well off as part of the rat race.....

I now study herbal medicine so our dreams are getting closing....in the mean while I will continue to plant and listen to the answers that mother earth gives me back..

Thanks for reading my rant.....and thanks for a wonderful site I have learned so much form it....

Thanks Guys... :flower:

Hi Pumpkin! Your set up sounds wonderful and yet another member from an exotic location. Barbados is a bit different from escaping to France or Spain!! What kind of interesting fruit and veg are you growing there?

Hi Millymollymandy,

Think I might disappoint you as far as the exotic is concerned...guess the things I have that I would not have at home are the bananas and coconuts also maybe the limes....

The rest is carrots, beets, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, beef and cherry tomatoes...huge supply of herbs...

The wonderful thing about the climate here is things grow all year so there is never a slow period in the garden just need to work harder on watering in the dry season....and protect the seedlings form the heavy rain in the wet season.... :flower:

Do you by any chance grow lavender ????

Hi, well I have a lavender, not quite so sure if you would class it as 'growing' lavender...... Though I did manage to propagate some one year, just!

Interesting to grow things all year round! There's good and bad in that as you don't get a break from gardening in the winter. But then again, if the weather is nice there isn't that need to snuggle up indoors in front of the fire, is there?! It sounds like crop rotation could get a bit confusing too.
