Hello from Belgium

Post: # 223876Post larosbiffe »

Hello! We're only self-sufficient in eggs but are creating a permaculture veg/fruit area this year. Anyone know any veg that are perennial?

Hi, welcome to Ish

Look up forest gardens - loads of plants are edible and perennial. Is a form of permaculture.

Hi there and welcome. :salute:

The only perennial vegetables that I can recall are Nine Star Perennial Broccoli and Welsh Onions, although there are probably more.
The broccoli is a white version of purple sprouting and the onions are a cross between chives and salad onions.

Sounds great! Welcome along.

Try and see if you can get this book, either from the library or by buying it - it could be what you're looking for.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Perennial-Veget ... =8-1-spell

There's this one too:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creating-Forest ... 237&sr=8-1

There's a Martin Crawford Forest Garden DVD too. And for further investigation Robert Hart book/DVD may help.

Also check, the Plants For a Future website.

Good luck and best wishes.

ASPARAGUS!!!

Sorry for shouting, but I get a bit excited about asparagus
Perenial, delicious, and quite decorative too. Takes a few years before you can start harvesting, though :(

Welcome to ish

Wow you guys are nice and friendly! Asparagus, of course! Welsh onions - also a winner at the family dinner table. Thanks too for the book recommendations (I LOVE book recommendations...). Am off to google forest gardening.
