attach fence to existing concrete post?

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

attach fence to existing concrete post?

Post: # 223021Post sarahkeast »

I am making a fence out of bits and pieces of wood I have scrounged up to keep chooks out of veggie garden.

There is a solid concrete post at one end of the fenceline, so I figure it would be silly not to use it. I have tested it and my drill can penetrate the concrete which is a good start !

I plan to put a couple of horizontal-ish planks straight onto the post and then put vertical stair-rod pickets [told you I scrounged it up] BUT - how do I attach the horizontals ? just screws and rawl plugs ? I dont have a drill bit long enuf to go all the way thru the post and it doesnt need to be super strong.

Any other suggestions ?

Thanks

Some wall plugs in the post and screw some brackets onto this?

I have used "rawlbolts" to attach posts to block walls, so would imagine you could do the same.
use two rawlbolts to attach a vertical bit of 2x2 to your post then nail your horizontals to that.

but maybe rawlplugs will be good enough.

as you screw the bolts into rawlbolts they expand inside the stone/brick/concrete to grip VERY tightly.

Yep these would be the No#1 solution - known as dynabolts her in NZ - fantastic things - just make sure you get them in the right place the first time as once they are in, they are nearly impossible to remove.
