I second that! The usual herbal teas taste like flowery nowt, but these are something quiet different. I love the liquorish particularly - I could drink it until it comes out of my ears! Tonight I've had sweet chai and sweet chilli in place of my usual glass or two of wine or fizzy pop. They really are a good replacement.skiesabove wrote:Drink herbal tea instead? I find that the Yogi teas are absolutely delightful just as they are, and naaasty with sugar. Perfect ;P.

Re: weight loss group
Hello again all!
Well done on all the losses, that's fantastic!
I weighed myself on the scales in Boots earlier. Not ideal as I had all my clothes on (minus shoes) and have done quite a bit of walking already this morning before pushing a buggy up hill to the place itself!
I want to lose about 22lbs to get me to my healthiest/happiest weight. I'll weigh every other week up Boots until we get some tidy scales for the house.
I popped into the charity shop this morning to see if there were any exercise dvds... It seems no-one has given up their resolutions yet so will try again next week

I was going to offer to "keep tabs" if people wanted me to but equally if people don't want to be kept tabs on then that would be ok too.prison break fan wrote:I like the thought that no-one keeps tabs, it is just up to us!! pbf.

I am absolutly scared sensless about diabetes and that is the main reason I'm losing weight.
For those that want to keep tabs on their weight loss then they could alter their sig line in the user panel something like mine below.

Re: weight loss group
I think you have it covered there Millims. The only thing I'd look at is the gravy and how that's made. If it the real way with the meat juices and gravy thickening then that will have a lot of fat, saturated fats and sugars in them, possibly the amount of red meat you are eating might be a bit much for healthy type diets, well what we are told to do is cut down on the red meat but the range of meals there would satisfy us in this household.Milims wrote:
Thanks for that Al, but it would be a HUGE post if listed everything I keep in my cupboards!Pretty much I keep tins of chopped tomatoes, tins of mixed beans, loads of herbs and spices, lentils, cous cous, rice, pasta, flour etc. About once a fortnight I buy a 2 person grocery deal from a supplier of local foods delivered to my door. It consists of a bag of seasonal veg - potatos, turnip, onions, carrots, cabbage and parsnip ATM, a meat box - 2 chicken breasts (free range and huge!), braising steak, beef stirfry strips, 2 beefburgers (really meaty ones), mince, sausage and bacon, 1/2 doz eggs and 1ltr semi skimed milk. No bad for £28! Apart from adding some more milk, eggs, cheese, some salad veg and some yoghurts that pretty much does us for the 2 weeks. My usual dishes are spag bol, chilli and shepherds pie (the mince goes a long way!), I turn the burgers into kofta, with the addition of some mushed chick peas and spice, and make a curry, chicken makes something like pollo romana and a casserole, the sausages go into a sausage and lentil casserole and a sausage and bean casserole, the beef strips make a goulash and the steak makes a stew. There's always some stock in the freezer to make soups with and I make any bread we need.
I just wonder if it's not all just a bit samey and if I could make something else that might be less fattening.
Sorry not much help there then.

Re: weight loss group
No probs BA - I know it looks like a lot of red meat but actually it works out to be only a wee bit. I buy the weekly 2 person meat box to serve 4 people for 2 weeks so it is quite spread out - small portions of meat with lots of veg. I know what you mean about the fat - I do make gravy with the meat juices, but pretty much the meat is lean and I tend to drain off any fat that does come out of it - otherwise it just makes me feel kinda sick!
We do eat quite a lot of carbs tho, so I'm not sure that they are quite as good as they could be
All that said - what I've done so far seems to be working!

There is so much science available and so many scare stories the first thing I look for when new research comes out is who sponsored it....... cynical I know but hey so what. http://www.lifeclinic.com/focus/nutriti ... yramid.asp This site is american but it's the first I found on the food pyramid. this might offer some idea of the %ages of the food groups needed but as you say you are doing ok at the moment.Milims wrote:No probs BA - I know it looks like a lot of red meat but actually it works out to be only a wee bit. Big Al, I have no scales and don't feel any thinner, but seem to have a bit more enthusiasm for things, and I am putting that down to the walking I am doing. Waistbands feel just the same! One thing I would say is that it harder to lose weight as you get older, and that is not just an excuse! Tonight the dog and I start our agility course, so am expecting great things of us. pbf.

I've got myself a personal trainer sort of, I'm being a case study for a guy who is training in that field. One of the things we will be doing is a 7 mile walk raising money for MacMillan Nurses

I've just enrolled my little boy into playgroup, so once a week for two hours I'll have time to take up running again! The dog will be very happy ;)

Oooo running Penny Lane, that's a scary prospect ( for me at least). I'd probably knock myself out
I've just weighed myself and I'm down 1lb
Only 7 stone 2 to go
, but I'm just remembering what Big Al said about how it all adds up. Even if I only manage 1lb a week then by the end of the year that is still over 3 1/2 stone.

I've managed to loose another 2lb this week and without too much effort, just by reducing my treats, watching protion size and eating a filling healthy breakfast! So clearly I've been over indulging. Now where's the slap on the wrist smiley?!
