Thought I'd logged into the Daily Mail by mistake. You may not LIKE eggs, you may ethically have a problem with people eating them,But be aware that the vast majority of egg producers are small(or miniscule)and use the money raised by a small scale,or garden flock,to earn a bit of currency to keep a self sustaining project going. There may be possible problems in the consumption of any animal products, and some vegetable ones too,but to say you eat eggs at your peril is frankly drivel.

People having a few hens hasn't anything to do with the vast majority of eggs being (a) battery farmed and (b) sold in supermarkets. Quite possibly the opposite.

And I couldn't care less if people ate broken glass, if that's what floats their boats. But let's face it, eggs are one of the more problematical things people want to eat.

Salmonella.
High cholesterol.
Possible links with diabetes.
An extremely common allergen in children.
Eggs are even linked with antibiotic resistance in humans, as antibiotic use is increasing in battery farms.

And now dioxins; ok, not the egg's fault really but still...

Unless you are having your eggs fried and with a full English every day, you won't raise your cholesterol. Eggs are a wonderfully healthy food packed full of nutrients (protein, vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin B2 and iodine). If you have a cholesterol problem cut out the amount of saturated fat in your diet and do some exercise.

Factory farming and supermarket retailing has a detrimental effect on the prouction and quality of loads of different products, eggs being only one.
There are more than a few 'problematic' foodstuffs meat, shellfish, nuts.anything pickled ,potatoes etc.etc.
The 'only'' perilous ' stuff I' know of are belladonna ,monkshood and the odd funghi.

You live at your own peril, but you still get on with it.

If we could all be as self sufficient as possible we could all afford to buy really bio food , but seeing that cost's a hell of alot
most of us are restricted to the mass produced food .
Chemical waste is processed in food , aand saw dust is added to bread , good for fibres .
It was ever so. Adulteration of food is as old as the grocercy trade - ash leaves in tea, chalk in bread, lime in milk, and now any old crap in animal feed.

It could be stopped if pernicious boycotts of erring companies were undertaken - put a couple out of business (the only thing that the amoral can understand) and there'd be an impact. But given the highly integrated nature of the food industry, this is rather easier said then done. :(

That's really interesting,(you guys who are more tech savvy than me)but couldn't that be organized on line? I may be wrong but it seemed to me that when that pro-wikipedia thing was happening a number of big players(mastercard etc) were vulnerable.
[ if this is getting off subject, sorry, maybe transfer to the ' Let's all get arrested and extradited to America' section!]

No extradition between France and the US  The French believe that US justice is an oxymoron ever since the McDos hot coffee / scalded goolies case

I think the trick would be to identify and isolate those responsible. In this case it is a largely anonymous feed company who supplies all kinds of people - good and not so.

I suppose one could make a public statement of intent to boycott any producer using that brand of feed, but one would need to give fair warning to allow egg producers to change supplier which could give them (the egg wallahs) all kinds of contractual problems.

Messing with peoples livelihoods is not something to be undertaken on a whim. That said, I feel increasingly frustrated that those responsible can so easily escape moral justice and get of with laughable fines. :angryfire:

Much as I deplore the fact that nasties such as dioxin can enter the food chain ... much as I hate large corporations messing about with the food chain ...

... can anyone think of a single human foodstuff, from any source, which is risk-free?

Nope. Balance and moderation are far more important than the actual foodstuffs.

Hello there ,

google around and find a product which does not contain some egg product , not many to be found .
Then look into the industry that sells the egg products , not much difference between this crowd and an oil reffinery ,
think we must all win the jackpot and go 100 % organic ,

regards ,

Paul
