Hi from Compost John from York

We love hearing from you, so here is your chance. Introduce yourself and tell us what makes you selfsufficient 'ish'. Go on don't be shy, we welcome one and all. You can also tell us how you heard about us if you like.

Hi from Compost John from York

Post: # 219426Post John Cossham »

Hi there! I like the idea of self-sufficient-ish... lots of people say to me that I must be self sufficient but I ALWAYS say that there's loads of things I can't do for myself, or don't want to do for myself... and I'd rather go and earn money to pay someone else to do. I'm also a member of YorkLETS, and trade with other members in 'Yorkys', the local imaginary currency.

So, I live a very low carbon lifestyle, heat the house with wood, grow some of our own food, cycle around with a trailer, etc etc. I work as an entertainer, see http://www.professorfiddlesticks.co.uk, and you can read my daily grind at http://lowcarbonlifestyle.blogspot.com/. I also have a stake in http://www.novaterium.com which is about the environmental impact of funerals.

I'm known as Compost John in some circles as I'm a bit obsessive about home composting, well... any composting really, I love it! I started York Rotters, and am also responsible for the start of York Credit Union and York Green Festival. I'm active in York in Transition too.

I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm here, and to learning how I can lower my carbon footprint yet further!

Yours, John

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
