Wind generator
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

Seriously, Hugh Piggot of Scoraig Wind has downloadable plans which are brilliant. I've participated in making one of the turbines (don't have one of my own yet) and they're basic and do work but you need to know someone who can source the various parts (magnets, wire, resin etc). Otherwise it's all about simple welding and joinery.

Re: Wind generator
I'll second Scoraig wind. Haven't had the pleasure of a workshop but when I come to do this I'll be looking there: http://www.scoraigwind.com/
He has loads of plans and great info. The sites a bit full but do some digging and you'll get the best advice there.
Good luck.
