Wattleseed or accacia pods

Post: # 218168Post meforage »

Anyone know which if any accacia pods are poisonous? There's an accacia near my home with lots of pods, I read some kinds are edible and called wattleseed, but how do I know if these are them?

This page supports what I suspected- they are most likely all technically edible as in they won't poison you but that doesn't mean they are worth all the bother in my humble opinion. like most australian bush tucker for me they sit firmly in the camp of "you would eat them if there was nothing else" they are used in breads adn so forth but there are much more delicious options. Have you got any pics of the pods near your house? I have done a couple of bush tucker courses and the ones we were shown to eat (around where we lived) were flat pods reddish on the inside with flat black seeds
like the ones on this linkhttp://www.bushfoodaustralia.com.au/wattleseed/
I much prefer the foraging of our introduced species here...
This pagehttp://www.outbackjack.info/foodfromtheland.htmlhas more about the usually used acacia species so may be of more help- there are apparently some toxins (as in most Aussie bush tucker if not prepared properly :? )
