Goat eaten too much now ill any help please

Post: # 216400Post Muddywheeler »

Hi, one of out goats has eaten too much concentrate its bit of a bully, its been snowing here for 11 days now and we have kept them in, as in other years, plenty of hay plus concentrate, but the other morning I went in the stable and poor thing was laid on its side crying, I called vet and he treated it, he said if it suvived at leased 5hrs then we may be in with a chance, so far its been well over 48hrs but i am very concerned, it has a cover on to keep it warm, I'm giving it warm water every hour to keep its kidneys going, but things don't look good, has anyone had a similar thing and what happened.

Mrs OJ seems to think your goat needs some protein soon as,suggestions, warm goat milk with sugar, bits of whatever her favourite foliage, just to encourage her.they like your company so your doing right by freequent visits. If she will take the sugared milk, follow up with same mixed with a little rolled oats. We've brought them back from the brink, and then again we've lost perfectly healthy ones in a trice, thats bloody goats for you. Very best wishes.

Try 1/2 cup of cooking oil + 1 tsp baking soda + 1/4 tsp ginger. This seems to help if they have a rumen that has stopped working .
We also found that if one was off its feed and getting weak then bottle feeding or tube feeding it with milk at least gave it some energy. It may be worth adding some sugar to the milk.
