Hello

Post: # 213122Post sandra stresshead »

Hi to all the selfsufficientishers out there. Have just managed to get myself on line and have found your interesting site. I do not have a clue about anything at the mo, so am hoping to pick up some useful tips. I have always been interested in this but never had the time or resources to do anything. Now out of financial necessity I will have to stop being lazy and get started. I am based in NE England and have a small garden full of weeds. I look forward to visiting this site frequently.

Hi sandra, welcome to Ish

They say each journey starts with a single step - looks like you might have just taken yours

How about having a look at your weeds and seeing if any of them are edible? You can get some great salads out of a patch of weeds

Welcome to ISH :flower:

If your garden is 'full of weeds' it'll give you a great clue to what type of soil you have & what will grow there. (I hope you have nettles, 'cos they only grow in rich soil!)

Hi sandra, you don't have weeds, you have potential compost or liquid fertiliser, if its grass types dig up and throw in compost or if invasive chuck it in a old pillow case with nettles, comfrey, organic manure and submerge in water for two weeks dunking every second day, also get any boys to pee in the barrel as its a great source of urea, then after two weeks drain water and ilute it 5litres of water to one of the fertilser and pour around roots of your veges, fill barrel again and repeat process for a second two weeks then discard pilowcase contents and start a fresh batch

welcome to ish and remember mother earth can teach us all we need to know just watch how she does it and do the same.
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

But damn it how happy we'll be!
