... buy a field? (New thread on an old topic)

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

How much was your 4 acres if you dont mind me asking? Just today I've found 4 acres near me selling at 12k per acre. So that would be 48K!! I've emailed the seller to see if he would consider selling just one acre or renting!

Harasimow, we paid the full asking price of £30,000. I say four acres, but it is actually around 3.84 acres. We had previously looked at a bare acre for £15,000 and another bare field of 3 acres for £17,000. Because this field was almost four acres and already had a huge (somewhat dilapidated) building, plus a storage container and quite a lot of concrete areas, we were quite happy to pay a bit extra. It meant we did not have to worry about planning permission for a barn etc. and we could use the container to store stuff from day one.

Prices per acre just seem to depend on how greedy the seller is, I think. One estate agent told me that because there is demand for small parcels of land, sellers can choose their price and wait for the highest bidder.
