The issue here is nothing to do with your cheery neighbourhood beef or dairy producer - this whole plan is driven by the desires of wholesale buyers (if I was the tiniest bit sceptical, I might think that a supermarket chain may be behind the whole thing).
Yes, bang on.
Well, they need a supermarket chain behind them to sell that quantity of milk... They won't be wanting to deal with dozens of small retailers! Not enough profit in that.
Nope, I don't recognise this as farming, either. This is big business. (Which some, of course, think is a positive thing to say.)

When I was a teenager, just a few years ago,my neighbour was a dairyfarmer(he paid me well at haymaking). Now, he bottled his own milk, and delivered it himself, locally. After the new regs brought in by the health and safety morons 'green ' milk became completely uneconomic to produce. His son went to the bulk tank. Then the MMB was closed down for purely political reasons, and every shyster thought how great it would be to wholesale milk.Recently some of these have been going under, the dairy business is as uncertain as it's ever been and some T-----r wants to set up a battery cow unit. 'Milk' which I wouldn't touch with a bargepole, comes in cartons(almost impossible to recycle)and is sold in processed food warehouses............stop the world,I want to get off.

I like and respect all animals too think of anything any of them might have in common with Mrs OJ's mother , except of course in 10 days time when she takes off!

Very succinctly put Big Al, that is exactly the problem. Out of sight out of mind so long as our bellies are full.

Well I agree, but as a smart bloke from Jamaica once wrote 'A hungry man is an angry man'....and ,I would add, not in a position to always be that choosy.
Why is such rubbish that obviously has an agenda allowed on Channel 4? I've not seen it but read the comments. Unfortunately there are some really greedy people who don't really care what people put into their mouths, and really don't care about the animals they are rearing. These are not real farmers as far as I am concerned. I would rather have less milk, as suggested above than cheaper milk.
