Scottish National Hedge Laying Competition

Post: # 211426Post Thurston Garden »

I nipped over to this on Saturday afternoon just as it was finishing.

I had a good chat with the organiser mannie who said that the hedge had been the same height as the trees behind when the layers started at 9am.

Only one Scottish competitor, the remainder were all from daaahn saaf.

Interesting to see! Photos here

That's some hedge - the size of those bottom trunks! Are they still attached at the bottom. I've seen hedge laying before but usually with Hawthorn etc not monsters like that!

Ohh - I forgot about this thread!

GA yes they are still attached at the base, but only by a tiny bit. Sadly I only got there are they were finishing up. When I was speaking to the organiser mannie I commented on the lack of rubbish - I thought if the hedge had been so tall there must have been loads but it had all been dragged into the wood to rot down.

It was interesting to see the different styles of laying and good to see in the novice section quite a few yoofs making a pretty decent job.
