save me from hollywood
My goodness me i have just sat through 2hrs of thier version of robin hood, it has to be the most technically wrong film i have ever seen
really bad English accents, loads of lost children running around rural England, an Australian Robin hood,
when the hoard road north and sacked Darlington then went north to York
followed by Peterborough
, well i live 23 miles east of Darlington and that makes us 45 miles north of York and even further north than Peterborough, then later on the French came ashore on the white cliffs of Dungeness
last time i was there it was a pebble beach on to flat marshland
now come on hollywood lets get the history correct and at least the geography right

when the hoard road north and sacked Darlington then went north to York

Re: save me from hollywood
The Kevin Costner version? Isn't that the one where he walked out of Dover and five minutes later ended up at Hadrian's Wall?

I love it - the White Cliffs of Dungeness (did they manage to avoid the power station?).

I fell asleep watching it last night. I think Russell Crowe must have decided that as the man of the people, he would badly mimic almost every regional accent in the UK. In some parts he sounds Irish, then Welsh, with hints of scouse and Yorkshire thrown in for good measure
. I'll probably try again this afternoon as Ridley Scott directed it, but first impressions were that it's pretty slow with a poor script. Oh, and Crowe is so bad he make Costner look convincing.

Hey, don't blame us, he's not really one of us...He's a New Zealander really... us Aussies have a marvellous knack of only claiming celebrities as Australian when they are the darlings of the world... when they are not, we allow their true nationality to be revealed. Hence the fact that Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson are no longer considered Australian (yes alright Russell Crowe owns a major rugby team here and married the daughter of one of our Playschool presenters but honest truth he ain't ours...)old tree man wrote:My goodness me i have just sat through 2hrs of thier version of robin hood, it has to be the most technically wrong film i have ever seenreally bad English accents, loads of lost children running around rural England, an Australian Robin hood,
I won't add the movie to the Quickflix list then....

As one professor of Scottish history once put it to me: "If you're looking for an accurate portrayal of the role of William Wallace in the Scottish Wars of Independence, you'd be better of watching Apollo 13."

Does anyone else have a real problem with American made films with really atrocious sound quality? Even their TV series are bad. All muttering and mumbling and then whispering whilst playing loud music over the top. The amount of times I have to pause and replay things or ask my OH 'what did he say' is enough to put me off watching most things that are made in the US. I just don't understand it.

MMM: that's odd, I have the same problem with stuff put out by the BBC. Maybe it's a problem with the way they're coded? I usually end up turning on the subtitles just so I can follow what The Doctor is saying.
BBC can't do American accents, either. Maybe we should tell all the studios to stick to their own country's history?

Re: save me from hollywood
... the problem being, of course, that Robin Hood and history were never the same thing. Having said that, "accepted" history and "real" history were never the same thing.
(And yes - the US uses the NTSC system and the UK uses PAL).

Could any English accent be worse that Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing?!
There is an episode of friends that really annoys me when they say someone has British accent. How the heck can an accent be British unless they alternate between Welsh, Scottish, Geordie, Scouse.... you get the point!
On a similar theme, the BBC often shoot outdoors things where the trees completely show up that it is the wrong season e.g. autumn leaves or blossom when it's supposed to be Christmas. I know they have to film things in advance but surely in this day and age they could photoshop it or something???
I feel better today for having a rant about something!

I have to admit I like American movies, but I am a science fiction fanatic, so no problems with the area, or the accents or the history... Maybe that is what they should stick to producing...

hey don't don't dish the kiwi's wombat you can't pick and choose which new zealanders you want, if we have to have russel crowe back, then so too with phalap, splitenz, crowded house and pavlova. hollywood did a terrible movie staring steve guttenburg where he played a kiwi with a terrible aussie accent, they can't veven get disaster movies right as the hero manages to cross a three thousand mile journey in a day and the planet survives a disaster that by physical laws would tear it apart. but if you want accuracy read a book
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

Alright, you can have Crowded House (and Splutenz) back on the condition that you also take some of our rugby players... We are keeping pavlova but we also want all those possums you have been hiding over there!Pharlap can be evenly divided(by the by I am never sure why Australia keeps claiming things that are clearly from NZ- do we think noone will remember that NZ exists? By the way I was watching a documentary on Capatain Cook the other day- who much to my astonishment didn't discover the mainland of Australia, or New Zealand or find the great Southern land.. in fact he wasn't even a Captain until he returned... looks like our school history lessons are about as reliable as Hollywood).
I notice that nearly every Hollywood movie ignores that space is a vacuum and that sound cannot travel within it.
