Post: # 211505Post chilitony »

When i haveated my elephant garlic this year there were loads little rounds attached to them which i've kept. i
i herd that they will grow into bigger bulbs than planting cloves, is this true?

The little bulbils will grow into a single round clove the following year and then if left for another year will grow into a complete head with seperate cloves.

The important thing is to plant these bulbils straight away and not to let them dry out.

I'm not sure whether they produce bigger heads after 2 years than you get from planting cloves, never noticed.

My elephant garlic had those small cloves around the base so i've planted them and we'll see. My big bulbs have been delish roasted whole with a Sunday roast and I'd grow them again. I do have two hanging in the shed but haven't checked on them for a while....humm, raw potato......no thanks!
