Baby Ducks, now!

Post: # 211334Post Darroch »

I have Silver Appleyard ducks which are just hysterical. Two are broody just now - in a giant bonfire. Not the easiest of places to be. Anyway, this morning one lot hatched. The other lot still has about 15 days to go.

I can't get a decent photo because they are in a hole, and run away when they see me. I gave them a shallow dish of water and a shallow dish of meat bird crumbles. Mum has deeper dishes.

I know! What a numpty!

But the nest was totally down lined but very twiggy. Tomorrow I'm going to move the wee water dish a bit further out and try to net all the babies and move them to the safe broody house, then catch mum and put her in with them!
Wish me luck.

I love Ducks!! I want some.

The local foxes love them too, so I have promiced a decent fence before I get anymore, but half the fun was having them knock on the back door for breakfast. Lush they are!

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
