Oooh I bet that's good, and an interesting recipe. Was it hard work grating them? We've made quince jelly a few times when we lived somewhere where a neighbour used to dump a ton on us every year (I wonder why? ) and I also made the most fabulous 'faux mango chutney' with them. But they are hard work to deal with!

MMM - I chopped the core out and put them in the food processor  . Only slight problem with that is that its dyed the white plastic bits lol oh well.

I only had four fruit, thats why I went for jam instead of jelly. But that still still made four jars.

That's a jolly good return. :thumbright: I saw some in the supermarket last week - I could be tempted! I keep thinking about buying a quince tree but I'm not sure where to site it - my stream bank would be ideal apparently but then I have to think that in about 5-10 years it will be in total shade from a walnut tree, so not worth it. And do I really want to be inundated with quince galore as well as apples and pears and everything else? No probably better just to buy a few occasionally!

if you make jelly then you can use the fruit to makes quince cheese/paste ... hard work shoveing it through the sieve but very good and its so exspensive to buy

Ok, you've tempted me. I'll have a go at the recipe and see how it turns out. If I don't like it, I can always give it away.

So why did I buy and plant a quince tree if I don't like them? :dontknow:

So that I can give them away to people who do like them

Oh yes, I knew I wasn't that keen on them. But the trees look lovely and, if it fruits as well next year, I shall take the fruit to the farmers' market.

Oooh naughty me I've just spent over €6 on quinces at €2.50 kg (cheap!) as I didn't know how many I needed for this recipe.

I've never made jam from BOUGHT fruit before!!! The skins are manky looking and discoloured though so I think I'll have to peel them which is a pain, but as I won't be able to do any pear jam I'm gonna do this instead - and the rest I will stew to mix in with apple in crumble. Yay!

I don't think I have ever tried a quince, do they taste like an apple or pear?

Can't say I've seen them in the shops round here either, I know that our farm shop has never stocked them.

They are highly perfumed (when cooked), I can't really describe it as it's years since I did anything with one or had any quince jelly. But I had a yoghurt with apple and quince in recently and kept getting this hint of something exquisite tasting and that made me think about getting some quinces (before I saw this thread).
