certification. for slaughter

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

certification. for slaughter

Post: # 208784Post Budo1 »

Hi, am trying to expand our bunny business a little more. I have been trying to find somewhere that offers us a course on slaughtering our bunnies for the commercial market. Is there anyone out the that can help. Its a different step up going from culling for personal to the commercial market.
We are based in South Wales but prepared to travel to get certified.... Thanks

I,ve never kept rabbits for meat(though we had some wool angoras for a while, and will get back to them when we,ve moved).I may be wrong but I think you're in DEFRA land here, which is a mixed blessing, but at least their advice always accurate.Hang on,do you have DEFRA in Wales? What breed do you keep?

Going back to this,I don't know where rabbits fit in in the DEFRA regs great scheme of things. Most big animals, sheep, cattle pigs etc, come under specific slaughter regs (butchering is different),poultry regs. only apply if you're killing a vast quantity per year,it's either 2500 or 25000, I can't remember, but a hell of a lot. Rabbits,I just don't know. Speak to DEFRA or the Welsh equivalent by phone,ANONIMOUSLY, Best Wishes.
