In view of the fact that I think most of us on this forum seem to live fairly healthily, homemade food, fruit and veg from garden/allotment/farm shops etc etc perhaps we ought to start a campaign for a 'Eat a Heart Attack Meal on a Saturday'. That way we could eat something that we really really enjoy, that's also bit naughty, in the comfort that everyone else is doing the same, so we don't have to feel guilty but just enjoy the fact that everyone else is having a good time too!!!!!! :wink:

When I was a money muppet working 7 days a week (often long days), I would eat junk food most days of the week, at the time I thought I liked it :scratch:

Since we semi retired (over 6 years now :iconbiggrin: ) we have been growing and cooking our own food, and I think in that time I have been to the fast food drive through twice :pukeright: each time I was left wondering why I ate the stuff :dontknow:

I have always liked my food, and now we take a lot more care where it comes from, and we have the time to make proper meals from scratch :thumbright:

Went to support a local vegetarian cafe yesterday and had a cream tea (well sort of cream tea as they don't use Cornish Cream but the scone was huuuuggggeee and the spray on cream thick). That's my bad habit for the week. Must have at least one heart attack meal a week as a protest against the sensible eating the rest of the time. :mrgreen:

I agree Flo :mrgreen: but we tend to do that more in winter because in summer we can't help but eat more healthily cos of all the darned produce - apart from the cakes made with veggies of course! :flower:

Course it will, I've just put scalloped potatoes and garlic in the slow cooker for dinner tonight, very healthy. :thumbright:

The half pint of cream that went over them doesn't count cos it was left over from Sunday's pud, and you have to use up all your left overs. So anything that ethical can't, by it's very nature, contain any fat or calories. :cheers:

I just had lunch. Two thick slices of home-made bread, three rashers of thick home-cured bacon, a fried, freshly laid egg, a couple of thick chunks of cheddar, and a big dollop of home-made rhubarb chutney. Then a just picked apple. Washed down with a mug of really strong, sweet black tea.

For breakfast, I had just killed pig's liver fried with bacon, onion, parsley and Worcestershire sauce, plus a slice of toast and another mug of tea.

Roll on the heart attack—at least I'll go out smiling.

I'm just waiting for the dinner to finish cooking. Just after lunch, I threw a couple of pig trotters in a large pan, poured in a good wodge of split peas, poured in lashings of water and set it all to boil. While it was heating, I also threw in just picked carrots, celery, bay leaves, thyme, and half a head of green garlic. When it hit the boil, I turned the heat down to very low and left the soup to cook for four hours or so. Then I picked the meat off the bones, blended the veggies and split peas, combined it all again, threw in some fresh peas, and added a good pinch of salt and a big sprinkle of pepper. Cook gently for another 10 minutes, buttering big chunks of home-made bread and dinner is served. Slurp.

And the beeper has just gone. My pea soup is ready. Bye!!!!!

See now this all makes me feel really healthy! Except for the pancakes and microwave cakes...
In fact...it might be time for pancakes again...smothered in maple syrup (haven't been to the market to get lemons yet!).

We'd just slaughtered a couple of pigs so we had to use up the remaining meat in the freezer and liver is best eaten fresh. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Any food that you have prepared from the whole raw whatever bee it meat or fruit or vegetable is good for you. It is the processed stuff that you just don't know what is in them that is the danger.
