Post: # 207449Post magica »

Hi,

I have been spotting these thingy berries on trees, wondering if its some kind of crabapple

And then there were several plants I wondered what they were and if they were of any herbal use:
Small, ball shaped yellow flowers

purple flowers

I live in Finland. Thanks!

Can't help with the first two I'm afraid, but the last one is Rose Bay Willow Herb.

In reverse order:
1. Yep, RBWH found on every railway embankment.
2. Can't see too small.
3. That looks like Arbutus , if it is, the fruits taste strawberryish, but I may well be wrong, and they could be deadly
posionous,so test them on someone you don't like.

No don't think so, Arbutus .. Strawberry tree, has serrated edges to it's leaves and the fruit is rough skinned and more orange than red, plus I'm pretty sure it wouldn't survive in Finland.
Grows wild around here though.

Hey, ah I notice the first picture, it isn't a wild plant, it was growing somewhere on the way as i was walking, and was just curious what it was.
the second one should be Tansy I think!

The 3rd one looks like St John's Wort to me, no idea about the first two though.
In the first set of photos the first one looks like a shrub I have in my garden which has lovely coloured berries which the birds love to eat; are the berries on the plant that you saw tiny? It is hard to tell the scale. Anyway I have a brain block right now and can't think of the name of it!!! I will get back to you.
