Buy a decent sit-on lawnmower

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

I attempted to scythe a small area of the grass and it killed me and my hands! It was very efficient but I don't have the spare week to spend cutting the grass! The sit-down lawnmower looks the most feasible option but I will have to chop the grass to a low-level then maintain it regularly

I bought the bullet and bought a nice little machine which was hardly used! I'll post some photos soon.
Anyway, the problem has changed slightly as the newly cut grass looks lovely but there is lots of dead grass from years of negligence from the previous owner. What is the best way to remove the dead grass(fire?) or to use a dethatcher or a Chain Harrow? are any suitable for a 12 hp lawnmower? Can I make my own as they seem expensive?

Btw, Should I start a new topic or mash on here?

New topic I reckon as you'll hopefully get more response. I'm not sure of the answer myself.

The sheep (walking tick-bombs!)we've had weren't interested in the grass and Wife refuses to have goats! We've dogs and cutting the grass reduces ticks(one has already nearly died from tick disease) and the grass can get stuck in their paws/coat and get nasty infections. To cut 1/8 of the grass with a strimmer, took me 2.5 hours in 28°C heat at 8pm and I was bitten by mosquitoes till the cows came home! Also, It was very tiring, and with a full-time job, not at all practical!

I've found some local websites(sorry in Hungarian!) with suitable devices

What do people think about grass collection devices on sit-down mowers(staying on topic ;) )? Are they worth the extra expense or am I better off getting a separate tow-behind lawnsweeper (example http://www.amazon.com/Agri-2dFab-Tow-La ... B000NBF3I0) ?
Your vet may be brilliant with animals but his knowledge of what 2 acres of grassland will support is questionable.

1. If the grass grows that well,(i.e. waist high) it will support cattle let alone sheep. The sheep on our common would kill for grass like that, and they thrive.
2.The problem with ticks can be overcome by cutting the grass really short to begin with, then putting the livestock on it (tractor - mounted flail).
3.The one thing that wouldn't do well is goats, they don't eat just anything, they're as picky as hell and prefer foliage, the best hay or haylage or your fruit trees when your back's turned.

Isn't it a bit sad to have 2 acres of lawn? Anyhow best wishes, and I know what you mean about the ticks on the dog, last time we were at the father in laws in Italy my Patterdale emerged from the long grass with over 20 in her face,it took at least 10 cigarettes before we'd burnt them all out.
