How do I get rid of ants?

How do I get rid of ants.

Must be eco-friendly, organic, preferably natural, utilise what I have at home or can get easily.

They hate peppermint. A few drops of essential oil in a squirty bottle of water will see them heading for them thar hills

Hate to tell you Maggie but our ants attacked and killed all of the saved and (we thought hidden) Xmas candy canes - peppermint flavoured in a big way.

I was trying to avoid the boiling water as they are coming out from under the house. I didn't want to start causing other problems.

I will try the peppermint oil, I have some of that.

Any other suggestions welcome.

What about greenfly? How do we get rid of them?

- synthetic flavouring or real peppermint EO? Or are you starving the poor blighters so their sugar craving overcame their fear?

They really don't seem to like the essential oil - or do you have super mint-busting varieties in NZ?

We have a serious ant problem too. Just found a bunch of ants IN our honey pot (after I had some honey of course). We are trying boiling peppermint tea bags and then spraying the tea on them. Not sure if that will be strong enough, but we'll see.
