well just to add to the fire brussels sprouts were recently voted NZ Gardiners most hated vege

Maybe John and Andy could create a one of super poll with a huge list and a choice of hate or love and we could all vote for Ish's most hated and most loved vege and fruit
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

I might be alone here but I really like sprouts. The comments about turnips made me laugh, as a child I always wanted to try them (perhaps inspired by the story of the enormous turnip??!) but my mum always told me I wouldn't like them. Last year, I realised I had still never tasted turnip and bought some and put in a casserole. I thought they were quite nice! I'll have to report back to her that she is not alone in her turnip hatred!
Mushrooms however are VILE and I get really cross in restaurants when the ONLY veggie choice is mushroom risotto/stroganoff etc. Will stop there before I unleash a whole mushroom-in-restaurant-related rant! :angryfire:

I choose beans as i'm not a big fan of runner beans, the only reason being that my Mum used to grow so many when i was a kid i got sick of eating them! My husbands exactly the same.

All the other veg i love particluarly Sprouts, i can eat then by the bowl full with vinegar on them....My mouths watering thinking about it.

I can't vote - out of the list I'm not fond of turnips (can eat them but wouldn't bother growing them again) but love swede and all the rest are great!

I like runner beans and other pulses, but think broad beans are pretty evil.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

The poll is going much as I would expect, except for beetroot. I was really surprised by its ranking. I would have to put beetroot on my most loved list.
Turnips/sweeds and parsnip got my patooee vote. :pukeright:

I'm most suprised by lettuce, who on earth dislikes lettuce so much?   I mean it's not really the sort of thing you hate with a vengeance above all other veg. :dontknow:

That may be because it says "Summer Salad Leaves" and not lettuce.
I love a nice crisp Cos Lettuce especially Little Gem, but those "baby leaves", mizuna and rocket (to me) are on the same par as eating grass.
Not that I would say that I hate them, just can't see the point.
Mind you, some of my best friends eat grass.

Cabbage. I have nothing more to say on the matter.

Actually you're the same as me Tony, those two (plus a really crispy Batavia) are my faves. Can't stand baby pappy soft leaves with no crunch but as there was no 'lettuce' I took it to mean every variation on lettuce. I do like rocket though but have to wait till next month to grow it cos of the flea beetles!

I've been put off beetroot because of cheap and nasty pickled beetroot that 'bleeds' over everything... was a favourite of my parents, and I just can't stand it!!

Try growing yellow beetroot - a very similar flavour (and not much like the flavour of pickled beetroot at all, which is largely vinegar) and none of the bleeding problem.

My most hated isn't on the list - it would be okra. I used to work for the Ministry of Agriculture, for the plant health and seed inspectorate. It was their job to check incoming produce for pests and diseases, and they told me some horror stories about what they found in okra! It put me off for life!

I voted salad as I couldn't vote cabbage. It's not that I hate them, just can't see the point. Might as well eat wet paper.

The only veg that I really hate is fennel as I can't stand aniseed.
