Difficult one - if you cure it you'll have the Customs on your back!

I know someone who is - I think you are allowed to grow it if it's for your own use though.

I grew a few plants for a few years. The plants get quite large and the flowers are attractive. The leaves are a magnet for aphids, which are easy to wash off. I grew just for fun and didn't do any curing. Actually the plants attract a lot of attention by visitors, sort of looking close-up at the "Indians Revenge" on the white man. One plant produces a zillion seeds.

Everything you need to know ...

http://www.coffinails.com/index.html

Duty is (strictly speaking) payable, but only at the point that you actually shred your tobacco. The attitude of the government at the moment is that they have far better things to do than go bothering people who grow their own, as long as they're not selling the result.

Thanks everybody, I know it is legal just to grow it! I'll give Julie a few days in case she sees this, and Coffinails, (brilliant name) is really helpful. The variety is Golden Virginia, and they look really pretty growing with my sunflowers. Big talking point down our allotments! pbf.
