There are fifteen ever bearing straw plants in the garden. When mulching it is necessary to keep the mulch away form the crown, This being the area from which all the leaf stems emerge. If the crowns are kept damp too long, they will rot and the plant will die.

Netting was placed over the fifteen plants a few days ago, since about seven ripening were taken by the resident robin. The netting system will be much improved as the patch gets larger, since the present system even with only 15 plants is tedious. The berries are excellent quality.
