egg query

i hope someone can spread some light on this i have found on two occasions now an egg like thing in my chooks nest box it is sort of rubbery shell which is quite thick and contains a foul smelling fluid the inner edge of the shell? has a sort of meaty apperance



i know this sounds some what vague but i cant do the photo thing if we get another one i will ask beloved if she will do it
try hard mean well and never give up

Well it does sound like a soft shelled egg but the foul smell and meaty appearance threw me as I've never found that. They just look like strange rubbery eggs. I guess a photo might help!

Are your hens young ones just coming into lay or old ones as that can happen when they are getting near the end of their laying cycle or indeed at the beginning, until they settle down.
