Rooster's crow has changed.....??

Leah & I went to a bird sale last year to get a main man Rooster & bought a really rough looking Rhode Island Red rooster (Romeo ) She had made her mind up about him before we got into the field, because we heard this deep brown crow - sounded like he was on 40 ciggies a day!! Anyway, we tracked him down amongst the many cages & home he came. He finished growing up & is totally handsome now.
He's definitely 'all Rooster' & has been a wonderful guy to have around.

Over the last few days though, his crow has started to change... he starts off quite gruff, but by the end of the crow, it's really high & squeaky, like he's losing his voice. Should we be worried? He's functioning perfectly in every other way & nothing has changed - apart from the fact that 2 of his young sons are giving him the run around a bit, while he's putting them in their place

My neightbours and I had two brothers. They both did the same thing. It didn't seem to harm their performance though The crows do change as they get older, fortunately, they get quieter.

It was sort of a tongue in cheek question, really - but he usually spends the day crowing to the roosters across the field next door - and they crow back, but they've got right weedy little crows!

They all get cider vinegar in the water once a week anyway - I shall wait & see what his crow does when the youngsters have been sold/eaten
Maybe he just doesn't have the energy for a full blown crow after all the running around he seems to be doing.... but the youngsters are definitely quicker on their toes... and boy, don't they know it!!!

Sorry if this is a silly question Julie, but why do you give them cider vingar once a week? Should I be doing this with mine?

It won't do them any harm, Nik. It's antiseptic for them & is generally given as an all-round cure-all!

When I can get hold of it, I use the poultry/equine stuff, but as is predictable, it's a lot dearer...
They seem to do just as well as the cheap supermarket brand
