Thanks Steve,

Yet another great idea that's gonna start buzzing around my head. Self watering plants sounds fab!
If in doubt ~ use a hammer!

My Gardener's Delight plants have been outside since the beginning of April and boasting tomatoes ... I thought I was the only one with freaky tomato plants ... must be something to do with starting them off early on the windowsill.

I bought some from the garden centre several weeks ago and they have grown rather tall and spindly on the window sill. They are being hardened off at the moment and getting a bit of sun scorch! However they have got so much bigger/bushier in just three days of being outside!!!

I've got to get them into their permanent big pots in the next couple of days so I'll just put a fleece over them at night to start with.

Ive planted out the spares as there were too many for the greenhouse.I put a cloche over them and sunk the pot in the ground beside each one.I'll take the cloche off next weekend when they are more used to the outside.
No idea what type they are.I bought Alicante seeds from Alan Romans and planted saved seed from some my neighbour gave me last year which she thinks 'might' be moneymaker. The saved seed did much better. All the Alicante were in peat pots and didnt like them at all.

So far I've got a grand total of four tomato seedlings, the largest of which is about 2 inches! I think I'm somewhat behind in the tomato stakes this year... they'll probably be ready to crop by about the end of October!

Ha, Wulf - I think I might beat you! I also only have 4 plants (all the rest died on me), but the tallest is about 3 inches... They don't look terribly happy, though - don't know what I'm doing wrong now. I've probably mollycoddled them too much.

And last year I didn't have red tomatoes before October, either. Although I planted early (bought plants).

OOh,
I was wondering what I was going to do with 15 tomatoe plants! Now I know I'm going to experiment with upside down pots!

Hi all,
Was in local garden centre buying tomato plants & bumped into friend who said not to bother, just plant a tomato of choice, which I did with several different types - cherry & beef included. Put them whole, straight into pots of compost and left for couple of weeks & they all came up. Now have several hundred tomato seedlings doing really well and all from types of tomatoes that I know I enjoy eating. No more buying plants or seeds for me!! Hadnt thought of doing that before.

Hi all,
have made some earth boxes out of wood, pond liner, plastic crates.
Put some Gardeners delight toms in. Very thick growth, on some plants
there are 300 flowers plus, is this ok?

Thanks Steve,
