Hello from sunny West Wales

Post: # 19156Post Aberlemno »

Hi - I'm the latest newbie, transplanted to rural squalor in West Wales 18 years now. Middle-aged, happily married, 3 teenagers, living in a rambling old farmhouse with walls three feet thick, too many cobwebs to deal with and 5 1/2 acres.

I grow veg, soft fruit, have apple trees, and know the whereabouts of every crab apple tree for miles around. I love old-fashioned roses, walks in the wild, riding my horse, making jam and drinking cider. I collect books and lame ducks.

Guess that just about sums me up.
All goes back to the earth, and so I do not desire pride of excess or power, but the contentments made by men who have had little. Wendell Berry.

Hello and welcome Aberlemno

walls 3 feet thick that is the size of my front garden

I wonder if your acres of land are harder to deal with than the teenagers

So with crab apple trees and your own apple trees do you also brew your own cider?

Lame ducks?..........

Hi there Aberlemno! and welcome :flower:

I have 2 dozen bottles of homemade cider sitting in my garage, made it last year, but not fussed on the taste. So far have used 1 bottle for cider bread, but that's about it. Am thinking xmas pressies

Hi Aberlemno

Nice to meet you - we are planning to try making cider this year!!

Sandy - CIDER bread? Do you have a recipe to share?? I made a beer bread the other day when david accidentally forgot to drink the rest of his bottle of beer (HOW can you forget ??) and it was delish and sooooooooooooooooooo easy to make. Will post up the recipe in the food bit when I get a minute.
