Hello from the Limousin, France

Post: # 18975Post Merlinn »

Hi everyone,

My name is Geof and with my partner and a friend have just celebrated one year living in the Limousin, France. We bought a derelict cottage and have spent the year renovating. We are almost finished now, well the basics anyway - except for the plumbing, which hopefully will be the next job to tackle. Showers with a watering can are ok outside in the summer, but autumn and winter is another thing.

We are trying to be a self sufficient as possible, using recycled water for loos and gardening. We use a 'dry compost loo' instead of the conventional loo. We are growing all our own vegetables this year and as soon as the fencing is sorted we shall be taking on some livestock.

This is an excellent site!!

Regards

Geof (Merlinn)

Hi Geof, and welcome to the site!

Well, I suppose after a year you've encountered a lot of the pitfalls of renovating a derelict place... Plumbing can't be too difficult, if you have a compost loo! :pottytrain4:

Which reminds me, there's a mixer tap sitting beside my bathroom sink which I've been meaning to replace my traditionally British, but highly inconvenient separate taps with for weeks...

Welcome Geoff,

What kind of livestock are you having. Are you getting any chickens? (I have this thing about chickens). I really want some!

I know how cold France can be in the Winter! My mother lived in the Lot area and now in the hills north of Rodez, where you definately need a fire or some kind of heating.

Hello Geof,

Here, that wasn't you on the telly just now, was it? I'm sure the ruin they were rebuilding on Grand Designs was in Limousin. Not really what you'd call a cottage though, more of a mansion.
