Vandana Shiva

Post: # 190138Post Rosendula »

I was introduced to this woman's work by a Facebook friend. She is remarkable. I have suddenly found myself a huge fan of someone I had not even heard of before this evening.

I am in an uphill struggle with bindweed and couch grass roots at the allotment. There have been times when I have almost allowed myself a fleeting glance at the consideration of resorting to weedkiller as a one-time-only remedy. This woman has reinforced my desire to continue to do things organically. Why haven't I heard of her before?

Dunno, Rosey. I first came across her in 1995 when I was finishing my Philosophy degree and she'd been around for a while then.

I'm not given to having heroes but if I were she would definitely be in my top 5.

Yes, she has true vision. “Societies and economies can be destroyed by bombs. Societies can also be destroyed by locking every aspect of life like provision of food and water through an economic war.”

I first read her work in resurgence; http://www.resurgence.org/magazine/arti ... -FOOD.html

Gosh, what an amazing woman.

I have just listened to her 36 minute lecture on youtube. She is very eloquent and clear in her arguements.

Thanks for bringing her to my attention Rosey. Will have to get hold of a copy of 'Stole Harvest'.

Definitely the kind of person to be a hero. A real hero (the kind who sacrifice for others, not an over paid ball bouncer).

I saw her do a talk in Totnes a couple of weeks ago - I've never been so bowled over by a public speaker in my life. She was such an articulate, passionate, knowledgeable yet down-to-earth speaker.

I can see how she would stop you reaching for the round-up!

I read her book 'The Violence of the Green Revolution' about 10 or so years ago, although a bit repetative (I think it was an assembly of newspaper articles) it is an incredible analysis and expose of the destruction caused by American multi-national seed companies in developing countries.

She participated in my 5Q-interview series. I just put her (short) interview up on my website:
