Quail & chooks

Post: # 190656Post Joero »

Hello all! New to this site, but having read lots of bits, have decided it is the one for me!
Ok, on with the questions!!
1) Can you keep Quail and chickens together? We have 15 chickens and 1 cock (Dave!) already in residence, but have the chance to get some quail. Can they live together amicably?
2) If we do get quail, and have a male (read the ratio 5/6-1), would the 2 cocks fight? Or would it be better to just have girls, and would the cock try 'it on' with them??
3) Quail jump upwards, anyone any idea how high? We have approx 7 ft fencing.
4) Are quail natural escapologists? Or not bothered?
So many questions....sorry!
Thanks for your time.

Hi I can't really answer your question as I've never kept quail, but as your post was about to slip under the radar I thought it could do with a bump to see if we can get an answer for you.

Welcome anyway

I don't know but, having seen how chickens can be quite aggressive against new chickens I would have some concerns for the quails' safety. Do you have space to create a separate area for them? You could then try introducing them together while watching for any behaviour that might put the quail at risk.
