It is quite easy to incubate home made yogart on the "warm" setting of most slow cookers.

It's very easy to make, just make sure you stir the yoghurt and milk really well before leaving someplace warm and undisturbed for around 8-10 hours. I've never bothered to add dried milk powder just milk and couple of tablespoons of the previous batch and it turns out not unlike Greek yoghurt, although this time of year it generally gets used to make cream cheese.

I imagine the longer you leave it the sharper it will get, but I make mine mostly for the children, so I just leave it overnight to set (in a glass jar wrapped in a towel on top of the boiler. I tried a flask, but ours hasn't got a wide neck and washing it was a pain, and this works for me).

I've just strained the last batch to make yogurt cheese (chives just poking through in the garden, so might add a few of them) and used the whey to ferment newpaper to make bokashi...fingers crossed!

http://bokashicomposting.com/ is the link for anyone interested- I wanted to compost cooked food, but not pay for the bran. I started with one bag of bran, so I knew what happened when it worked correctly, and am hoping this will take over. Just 1/2 cup yogurt whey did loads of newspaper. :cooldude:
