Remember to check your spuds...
....and other stored veg. I went to the shed earlier to get some potatoes for tea and had to dig down in the bag a bit to find the right sized ones (jacket potatoes). It was then my finger hit something yukky. So tomorrow's job for me is emptying them all out and checking them. With the weather stopping a lot of us doing much garden work, I guess now is probably the best time for this sort of job. Just thought I'd mention it in case it acts as a reminder for someone.

We're back on supermarket spuds but I'm quite pleased because they roast so much better than the spuds we grew!
When you check your spuds take off all the sprouting bits whilst you are at it, and check your onions because I've had the squidgy surprise too.

Must admit that I spent yesterday on the rummage and sort through all my veg, am quite proud that they are holding well only a few squidges but is the smell that I hate more

The worst thing was when I went to dig up the last of the carrots from the ground one year only to find they had totally rotted into orange blancmange in the ground. Really gross!

Ours seem to have stored quite well. Nothing squidgy yet but we are on the last bag now so hopefully it won't be a problem.
I don't know if it's relevant but we invested in some hessian sacks this year. It seems to let the air circulate round them. And having grown them in bags we didn't have enough of each type to fill the sacks to the top.
